Dashboard compartment
The one thing I don't like about my Impreza's interior is that daft storage box on top of the dashboard (in the centre above the air vents). Anything you put in there just seems to rattle about!
The chap in the place that sold me the car informs me that the Impreza and the Forrester share the same dashboard...but I'm sure I've seen the Forrester with some sort of LED or LCD display in the same place.
1. Can I replace the daft storage compartment with one from a Forrester (I assume the wiring looms are similar in the Impreza & Forrester)?
2. Has anyone done this...and thus got any pictures?
Oh...I've got a MY99 before I forget!

Depends what you call difficult: don't forget that I have 3 gauges in mine, with holes cut to suit, and the control box fitted into the fake cupholder beneath.
As far as actually fitting the pod, it's easy: take out the oddment tray, by removing the two screws and pulling it towards you by the lid, remove hinges by unscrewing from beneath, replace oddment tray base, and put blobs of blu-tack or plasticene in each corner, then push pod into place. Pulling it off again reveals indentations in the blu-tack, showing you where to put small blobs of silicone to hold it in once you're finished fitting gauges etc.
I'd estimate 30 minutes for the pod, 30 minutes to cut out the holes for gauges after marking out, and about 4 hours to fit gauges.

Ok, daft question here: is this classed by the insurance companies as a 'mod'?
I've now put it on my list of things to do to the car, but don't really fancy paying an extra premium for it!
