Ok, I take it that you have a Jap import classic shape with the huge radio/tape??
The only solution is to get a normal radio bracket with a cubby from a Subaru dealer, take the huge radio and bracket out, and just fit the single bracket with the little cubby underneath.
At least, thats what we do here in South Africa, the whole thing costs GBP20
