Guage Fitting Help...
#1
Anyone knwo any decent websites with guides to fitting a boost guage and am AFR meter - Need this asap... please help.
As I understand it, the AFR goes to the ECU.... which pin, any one got picture of ecu and which pin is which or are they numbered (not likely i know)
Cheers in Advance

It depends on which ECU
there are definatly pics on Scoobynet of I think at least two ECU's
the blocks are numbered, and the pins are too IIRC
Blue Plug B136 pin 21 (white with silver dots ) on an AE800/801/802 ECU again IIRC
I have one on mine, and found the pics on SN but it was a bit back

Cheers for help so far guys - mucho appreciated

I'm assuming the AE801 and AE802 have the same wiring, as they are interchangeable. So...
1. Pull back the carpet in the passenger foot well.
2. Remove the kickplate covering the ECU.
3. Look for the wire - blue plug (B136) pin 21 (third row down, third in from the right, white with silver dots).
4. Either...
a) cut some of the insulation off and solder the purple wire from the AFR onto it.
or...
b) just use a scotch lock connector, as I did, as I'm wnak at soldering
5. If you don't get any disco activity at idle and cruise, then your lambda is probably knackered (as mine was) so don't undo everything you've done, thinking it's something you've done wrong (as I did)

Scotch locks are the work of the devil and should be cast out! They are as reliable as an unreliable thing and are just generally evil.
Don't ever use them, particularly for something that is so utterly sensitive to voltage drop. For AFR, you're dealing with a range of .1V from min to max if I recall correctly, and a scotch lock doesn't cut the mustard in the reliability stakes.
I really don't like 'em - you can tell, can't you ?

Just look at me guages and it dont look like the grey wire that goes to the eCU will ever reach over to the passenger side, now is the wire anything specific seeing as i will need to buy some extension to it.
Thanks once again

Got to agree with Chiark on this one the connection to the lambda needs to be soldered and insulated , if you can remove the pin from the ecu connector you can use a small length of heatshrink tubing to make a proper job of insulating the soldered connection.
The wire goes directly from the lambda to the ecu IIRC so the connection can be made anywhere in the circuit but if you want to make the connection near the ecu you will have to extend the wire to the guage.Whereabouts are you goosanuk? if you are not confident in soldering the wire and your nearby I dont mind doing it for ya

Cheers for the offer Steve, I am about 130 miles away unfortunately.
I have a m8 who would do it all for me, but needs to know where the best palce to connect the grey wire to and which plug in the ECU it should lead to ( so it seems pin 21 on the blue plug )
BUT is tis wire anything special does it have a certain voltage etc etc?

Also where is the best place to earth the guage to - I assume easiest live is cigarette lighter or the ignition itself.
The guages are going to be on the A-Pillar..
Any easy locations for the various wires.
Thanks.

Hi mate no probs with the instructions
I pasted them from the thread when I did the group buy on afr's a while back, I have to agree with Nick (Chiark) I did not use Scotch Lock connectors, I soldered my wire onto the ECU wire, and made a proper job of it
the Earth needs to be as good and as direct a path as possible, what I did was buy a big earth strap from Halfrauds, connected this to the battery, and fed it through and connected the other end directly to the ECU chassis, which is also where I connected the AFR earth

Cheers fellas - went in tday all working
This where everything got wired....
The gueages have an illumination pack with the guages that you can plug 2 other guages into - this has a POS and EARTH connection only.... POS came from fog light switch and earth from a bolt to the right of switchs if u see what i mean.
AFR guages has the connection to the illumination pack, and the POS, EARTH and Signal, Pos came from an Ignition wire, EARTH same as above, signal from the ECU.
And it all WORKS
