If it was a later car with an airbag fitted as standard then i would say it was down to the hub kit, i changed my airbag wheel for a sparco one and the hubkit didn't allow for the small tab that knocks the stalk off to stop on. However i'm not sure when airbags came in so it may just be that the tab has snapped off or worn down or the hubkit has been changed. If you are confident enough have a go at taking the steering wheel off and take a look, its not as difficult as it seems and it may even just be a case of a bit of dust messing things up.

This pobably doesn't help at all but to put your mind at ease a little bit it's not a problem that they can fail you on your mot for.

cheers mate,
I just like my car to be spot on...
I`ll try to obtain a hub kit that will knock the indicators off.

it's likely the indicator 'tabs' have been lopped off

you'll likely be needing some replacement
parts from your Scoob dealer if you wish
to get it back to self cancelling.

i have 2 Imprezas
both with aftermarket wheels...
1 self cancels and 1 does not...

good luck!!!

If it has a black disk type think behind the steering wheel it is part of this that cancels the indicators. The black disk is connected to the airbag in some way.

I removed mine so I got a sexier wheel. My indicators don't self cancel but hey . . . you learn to live with it.
