Guide/tips for installing Defi gauges?
#1
Does anyone have any tips or "how to" guides on installing Defi-Link controller/gauges? I've seen some tips on the Defi site, but I'm looking for firsthand experience. Any one got Defis installed?
I bought the kit from Scoobymania, including their flat-top gauge pod. I need to cut the holes for the gauges (3* 60mm). Any tips on the best way to do this?
Cheers,
Ben

£50? Not bad at all. Where was that, if you don't mind my asking?
For that price I'd have them installed for me, as well. I asked at my local Subaru garage and they wanted between £200 and £300!

I now have my Defi kit, along with a Scooby Mania dash pod. How have people attached their gauges into the pod? I don't see any obvious mounting mechanism. What's the trick; jubilee clips on the back? Silicone sealant?

Just fitted mine this weekend
I got mine from Scoobymania too. It wasn't pointed out to me when i ordered mine, but apparently Scoobymania will cut the holes for you I searched high and low for a hole saw, but the nearest i go was 57mm. The other 3mm i sorted out with a small grinding tool in a drill. The gauges aren't attached as such to the pod as the hole is a good tigh fit.

I asked Scoobymania to cut the holes. Unfortunately, they didn't do it. Nevermind... The closet holesaw I have is also 57mm, so I guess I'll be using the Dremel after that.
I think it was BAH who suggested using black insulation/electricians tape around the gauges. That sounds a good idea. It could be used for padding-out the gauge to make it fit an over-sized hole, or it could be used behind the surface to make a 'ridge'. The Defi pod comes with rubber boots that you place behind the gauges. I guess the idea would be to emulate that with sticky tape.
Brun - where did you mount the control unit?

Good plan ... my alternative was to lose the drinks holder. I've used the drinks holder about twice and I've never used the ashtray! I suppose the wiring would be easier if I used the drinks holder space, though . Did you have to take the whole central dash out in order to do the wiring?
