Just thought I'd share some info with you all after doing a bit of detective work for my Knocklink.

Knocklink Display - Jap Innovations - £76
Bosch Sensor - Teeside Autotech - £38
Bosch connector - Vehicle Wiring Products - £4

That makes a grand total of £118 and includes VAT and Delivery from each supplier.

For the Bosch connector you need to order the bits seperateley:-

4145 - 2-pole female housing
192150 - boot
5962 - female terminal (x2)

Scott,

Bosch part# for the sensor is 0-261-231-006. You can't order online with that supplier, but any Bosch dealer in the UK can get you the part. Eddie @ Teeside said he had them in stock on Monday.

You can also buy the Bosch connector seperately and as a complete kit from the same supplier, but it's about £10. Part# is 1-287-013-003.

That's where I got mine, then noticed Vehicle Wiring sold the same connectors for a fraction of the cost when I was thumbing through their catalogue. I've bought loads of cable and connectors from them recently for my earthing mod and wished I'd have spotted them sooner.

This is a pic of the original Bosch kit.

As you can see, it's identical to the bit from Vehicle Wiring.

I assume then that the Knocklink comes with a length flying lead, to add the bosch connector too.
OR do you need to wire directly to the Knocklink Box.

The knocklink comes with a short cable (about 6") with a multi-pole connector. It has a long fly-lead (about 3m) with the correct multi-pole connector at one end and just two bare wires on the other.

You then crimp on the terminals from the connector (shown in the pic) and connect that to your sensor.

I have some pics at home, but I'll try to post them up.

OK,

Here's a pic of the sensor (part# 0-261-231-006)

Here's a pic of the connector (part# 1-287-013-003) - or you could buy bits seperately from Vehicle Wiring

and here's a pic of what you get with the Knocklink (together with the bits above).

Knocklink fly-lead has 12v iginition feed (red wire - 1m), ground (black wire - 1m) and sensor wires (brown - pin#1, black - pin#2).

Still better than £60 that some suppliers would charge you

IIRC Teeside were £33+VAT and £8.50+VAT for them. Delivery was £1.50.

Cool

Does anybody know whether the Bosch sensor could be used to replace the standard engine knock sensor or does it give different voltage readings ( this is for an MY93 )

Cheers

No but if you call the Bosch automotive helpline they should be able to tell you the output of the Bosch sensor - if you know what the standard one outputs you'll then know.

Don't know the number off the top but probably easily found at www.bosch.co.uk or try 01895 834466 and ask for the automotive technical help. Motronic Knock sensor is product 0 261 231 006

Can probably find out about your existing one from somewhere like www.revensblade-impreza.com

I'm thinking about getting a Knocklink, but don't know if I need one. I have a MY98 UK turbo, and the only engine mods are full decat, Irdium plugs and forge d/v, and possibly a sti5 i/c.

If I need a knocklink, is there really a need for Bosch sensor? £42 could be spent on something else, if the OEM knock sensor can cope with it. Does it make much difference? Thanks

I understand that it is better to install a separate sensor for the knocklink but not essential. (I also have MY98 and plan to put one on mine shortly).

Keigo,

No, don't use the OEM knock sensor. When you splice into the wiring you are affecting it's signal and not getting a true reading.

Don't scrimp on £42 and have your engine blow-up coz it wasn't showing the right amount of knock (or worse none at all).

no.

it's only 4 wires. 2 for the Bosch sensor, 1 12v (iginition) and 1 ground. Have a look on my website, I posted pics when I installed mine.

I've also put up the actual instructions you get with the Knocklink.

Excellent site Stefan,

Thats what I needed, considering my engine is stripped competely accessing these parts shouldn't be much of a problem. Hope to fit all these sensors & gauges on the rebuild.

Did you use cyl no.3 port for the oil pressure sender or did you use the OEM point ?

I used the bung under the IC (not sure if that's above #3) for Oil Temp.

The Oil Pressure sender replaces the OE one under the alternator (MY99/00)

FYI

the cheapest local place I found for the Bosch Sensor is Cafco Autos in Wokingham 01189784716

Sensor £26.57 + Vat
connector £6.11 + Vat

Vehicle Wiring charge £3.25 + vat as min delivery so price from them is £5.98 + Vat so ordered connector from Cafco as I can collect

but moral of story is look on bosch website and ring round a bit
