Any advise on fitting race spec harnesses to an STI7 Prodrive UK??? Was thinking of fitting 4/5 point SABELT harnesses to the car for that added touch.

Hi,

Just bought 3 point for my 1997 UK Turbo - speak to Paul @ MPC 01922 625903 for advice.

I am getting the harnesses fitted after Christmas ready for 2003 Hill Climb Championship

Question

PS I think the existing seat belt anchor points can be used (not sure of this...)

You should never fit a harness without a roll cage.

OK. I'll bite. Why ever not?

I've read the other thread and can see the logic behind all of these warnings, but still can't understand the above comment.

I can even see the opposite, with standard belts there's a very hard bit of cage close to your head, above the door and the main hoop just behind you, so you should never fit a cage without full harnesses (and maybe even a crash helmet?) would be understandable but not the above.

if you have a 4-point harness without a roll cage you are exposing yourself to disaster if you roll the car - your head will held in place as the roof colapses!

Whereas with a lap and diagonal you can roll sideways or perhaps the shoulder strap comes down with the roof. Fairy Nuff. Makes sense.

i have sabelt 4 points in my v5sti type r.
in the installation instructions it says FIT TO THE FACTORY STANDARD BOLTS.
I took out the middle lap belt and used the bolt on either side of this for the rear mount and the side mounts i used the bolts that bolt down the rear of the front seats, they are Emarked also!
