Apologies if this thresd has been done before, how do you remove the needles (especialy the smaller temp and fuel needles ) from the console on a 93WRX. I have just tried using two flat bladed screwdrivers, (done this before on other cars with no problem) and wrecked the fuel guage, going to have to get a new console now from the scrappers.
Still want to fit my white dials though.
Cheers, Rob.

I was always told to use a fork as you can use the shape of it as a lever.

Rob

I made the decision to go for white dials a few months ago on MY93WRX and the Lockwood dials I fitted involved cutting the old black dial for the fuel and temp away and then sliding the new ones in place. The needles were not removed. However the mph and rev needles were removed with the use of a hairdryer and the 2 spoon method - worked a treat.

Hope this helps

Woah follw my lead & the 3rd time round i didnt break the spindles this si VERY easy 2 do. The normal advice for speedo & rev uns is to heat up & use the 2 spoon technique, which does for a lot of people work, however i tried this & broke the workings for 2 rev dials!!! My advice is there4 2 just melt the needles off with a soldering iron, although this will obviously mean u need some spare needles on stand by but presuming u can pick these up easy enough it is IMO the only safe way 2 do it As far as the temp & petrol uns go i have again herd many a tail of people killing theirs with just minor contact with em so again the standard advice of just cut the old black uns off is sumtimes easier said than done. Personally i found a very small pair of scissors good for the final cut thru to the centre, but even then this did have a slight movement on the position of needle, but i found the best bet for cutting away most of the surplus black dial was best done with a pair of nail clippers Seriously thou i kid u not this is a good & easy technique.
Si
PS ask away if i can help any further?

Thanks Si, I wouldnt have thought of that,
I have got a second hand console now and left the black clocks on to be on the safe side. May try again in the future.
Cheers, Rob.

BTW u do no u dont need a hole consol just 4 1 broken dial thingy? I paid just under £50 for a rev dial, working etc from a couple of breakers (done twice following bodge round 2 ) & i can mail a nice big list of subaru breakers 2 any1 who wants it? But anyway basically u can just unscrew the workings from the main dash board consol thing & replace it with the well replacement
I will try & find the site that runs thru how u do it so watch this space
