White Dials
#1
o.k Guys and Gals
Have recently fitted Lockwood White Dials to WRX MY93. However, the speedo needle appears to stick when the car is cold. Basically the needle sticks as I travel faster until the car is reasonably warm and then hey presto the sticking stops and the needled moves normally ?
I have removed the needle and the spindle appears to be leaning slightly more to the left ? I have removed the needle and replaced it but no use. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas as to how to cure it ?
Cheers

er dont wana scare u but i stuffed 2 sets of rev dials doing the white dial thing those spindles r little b4rst4rds 4 breaking at the slightest tug, in the end & £80 off scooby breakers purchasing later after breaking another 1 i melted the needle off with soldering iron so it woodn't break & then just put 1 of the "spare" needles on the replacement.
The symptoms with the rev counter was that it woodn't return 2 the rest place when u flicked it round, at least not as quickly as it should & when it went over 12 o'clock position it woodnt even think of going back. When u have the dash out if u pull at the needle it wood kum out, only marginally but that is enuff 2 mean the spindle is up the brown unpleasant smelling creek
So it sounds slightly different 2 yers but the spindles on all the dials r infamously easy 2 bust r u sure it's not shoved on too far i no i did that with the speedo at 1st when putting needle back on but 4tun8ly when i yanked it sum it came out & didn't bust
Dunno as that helps as it duz sound strange it works after a while but fort i'd share that

Si thanks for the replies m8 - you are correct MY93 has the cable that plugs into the back of the HUD (altho it was a devils job getting the cable to plug into the back after fitting the dials)
Thanks for the info. I will take a look at the cable and spindles this weekend me thinks.

the 2 main dials r straight forward
the 2 littler dials are hard
u have to cut the old ones off gently.
then place the new white ones on carefully
slightest knock and those baby break

if u have spare needles then when u get replacements from breakers etc melt the needles off if it's the speedo & rev thin yer busting when doing 2 spoon technique
As far as hacking away original dials for the petrol & temp gauge goes i managed it with much caution a tiny pair of scissors & a piar of nail clippers just trim away as much as possible with the clippers & then used scissors 2 cut thru 2 the gap in the middle then it's just a case of gently prising it from around the spindle without making too much contact, i found more contact woz made with this spindle when putting the new dials on but just made sure i new where it shud b pointing & gentle pushed it back 2 where it shud b & 4tun8ly nowt happened with those
Let me no if i can assist any further?
Si
PS oh look web page is now working how to fit dials i didn't actually remove the dials as described but probably wood b easier but i still say use small scissors & clippers rather than knife more acurate & easier

it was a special too for taking off the needles.
sort of a fork shape tool, so u can prive the main 2 off
they mentioned that you cant take the temp and fule neeles off, as they r glues on. so u have to carefully cut the old faces off them 2.

Unless it's a tool which will actually grip the spindle then it will still b as flawed as the 2 spoon technique in which case it's hit & hope whether it breaks
Si (& his soldering iron if u wana borrow it )
