so my 2007 hawk sti has a rattling/vibrating gear-stick and its driving me crazy.
its like a metallic sound and under the **** there is a round metal piece which is loose and spins around im pretty sure its that. it sounds like a thousand bee's stuck in it. any ideas how i can fix it? is it a common issue?

The round plasic piece under the 6MT gear **** is the reverse lock slider **** - item 7 below
This is attached to the shift cable assembly.
The OEM lever has a plastic coating on it where the slider moves up and down and can wear with time until it begins to rattle.
Reverse Lockout Rattle Fix you may need to sign in to see images but have linked it below
if adventurous you can use suitably sized electric heat shrink...........

Maybe this helps. Been looking at getting one myself as I‘m getting a rattle when shifting. They don‘t have a uk or european distributor but do ship internationally.
Looks good quality.
The way shrek is describing it sounds like there might be more to it than just a worn reverse lockout slider.

must admit though for such a little thing not only does it look good it also makes changing into reverse so much easier as well as it feels strong etc

Yeah, getting black and leaving it as is would probably be the easiest. That‘s what I‘m after get rid of the rattle and make it feel more solid. Thanks for the tips!
