Default Classic gear gator

Are there any solutions to replace the existing rubber gator with something a little easier on the eye?

Thanks

Ross

Yep.

Did mine with a £10 red leather one, (to match the car).

It was slightly too short, but I undid the stitching along the bottom and it then fitted nicely.

I removed the surround and the old rubber gaitor, made holes in the leather, offered it up and replaced the plastic oval, fixing in place with small styrene squares with the same hole and a dab of styrene solvent, the last two from the model shop.

Thanks, not sure what is going on with mine as there doesn't appear to be a plastic ring? The rubber gator appears to be glued to the console

Hmmmmm.

On mine, when you removed the gear ****, you could pull the console out and turn it over.

There was a plastic ring, same shape as the hole, which held the gaitor in place. It had maybe ten pegs through it with those one-way metal clips, push on, never come off on the plastic pegs.

Those were wrecked removing them, hence my substituting the plastikard bits.

How does the gaitor fit at the top of the shaft ie where the gear **** is?

Mine is a 1998 sti type r and is very tatty and falling down the shaft and I cant see how to fix it (really should be replaced!!!)

Thanks - sorry to interupt your thread!

On mine there is a large press stud and it's other half, plus the gaitor is split, with red Velcro in the split. Once in place, the velcro does up, the press stud does up and it's tight and secure. But it opens far enough to go over a 6-speed gear ****.

I got one of these off ebay for my V5 Type R

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FITS-SUBAR...item35d22af6a4

He has them for different Subaru models and different coloured stitching as well. You can search his ebay shop here:

I also got a genuine gear **** from Japanparts.com as my gearknob was worn and threadbare

It was a bit of a faff on to get the little holes lined up on the leather gaiter and as said above the little one way metal washers - but turned out OK in the end
