Yet again I'd disagree with scabbynet, they are pointless in terms of cooling turbos down, but in winter they are great for letting the car defrost with the engine running without the keys being left in ignition.
Funny they are pointless but but then you guys still wouldn't just switch your car off straight away after a hard drive.
Absolutely not, but there is a middle ground between driving like Miss Daisy and ragging the **** of it, and managing the use of your engine for the last mile or two before you reach your destination and switch off is the way to do it.
A turbo timer does nothing that you can't do for yourself with a little forethought

so that doesnt make them pointless then does it.
they have a use if you want to drive flat out until the minute you stop.
It's written in mine, that's why I took mine out (already fitted to the car when I got it). Reads something along the lines of any device that can allow the engine to run on without the driver being present. Something like that anyway. I'm at my nephews birthday party right now so I don't have it to hand.

I realise you are being facetious to make a point, but even in that scenario you are breaking the law if you then leave a vehicle unattended with the engine running.

ive never seen anything to that effect in my policy and i have a proper insurance policy with all mods declared via moley.
i dont have a turbo timer as i agree they arent really needed in an impreza if you arent brainless.

jst to add something elses then,it in effect leaves the ignition on so it doesnt have to have the engine running, so could be used to leave your lights on for ten seconds while unlocking your door etc.
so pointless for the job intended but can be used for other purposes legally.

I have proper insurance too. I'll have a look later and see if I can find what it says exactly.

That's a bit of lateral thinking.
Careful, SNET can't handle proper thought processes and you'll get a ban

i know, as i said i fully agree its pointless to cool the engine down as common sense and mechanical sympathy are far better.
but clubs like sioc exist and with it idiots with no idea offering advice about things they have no idea about its easy to see where the confusion comes from.

Lol I'm not trying to defend that turbo timers are good but all I'm saying is sometimes you got to get to places quick and don't have the time to do the cooling down process, I also understand about it voiding your insurance.
For me the turbo timer comes in handy for cold morning starts, when doing genreal cleaning/ washing etc that's it.
Just to clarify. The use of these is illegal If you set the timer and exit the vehicle. It is against the law for any vehicle to be running without a driver in the drivers seat.
Although if I had one I'd use the space below the switches on the right or hideb in the glove box etc
