Hi All

Anyone ever had a write off? if so once the insurers had said "its total loss" how long did it take for them to pay you a cheque??

Is it true you have to cash it regardless of amount? and then battle with them if you think the car was worth more??

I have the feeling this will be a nightmare, help!

My dad runs a Chauffer car business, one of his drivers managed to get one of the cars written off, it's been going on now for about 3-4 weeks, so far they have made 2 offers but he's so far rejected both offers as being too low, they have sent 2 cheques which he has promptly sent back to the insurance co while he negotiates a price he's happy with, my advice would be to send the cheque back because if you bank it basically they could say that you have 'accepted' their offer....

I also have heard nightmare cases where people have not been paid out after 12 months etc, these are of course worse case scenarios.

ADP, Unfortunately my MY95 WRX went the same way. Here's what happened
Accident 14/04/02
Car Inspected 19/04/02
Wrote Off 26/04/02
Received Interim payment 02/05/02, less excess.
Sent my own info off, what I thought the car was worth, Auto trader photos ,same model, same year, same mileage,all as near as I could, from dealers.
Argued with engineer on price, then mentioned I would go to the Insurance Ombudsman 14/05/02...14.45pm
Insurance called back and offered me what I wanted in first place, 14/05/02...16.45pm...........2k more than 2 hours earlier.
Still waiting for my EXTRA payment , but that could be my fault for asking about buying it back, and not getting back to them. Crossed wires somewhere!!!
Should be sorted next week...7 weeks in total.
