Default Esure insurance say car is imported

Hi first post from someone looking to buy their first Impreza

So Ive found the car I'd like to buy a 2002 Impreza WRX Ive had an online quote from esure (who are my current insurers) and theyve quoted me £450 which doesnt seem too bad. I rang them yesterday morning to firm up the quote details and they say they wont insure the car because its imported they asked me to get more details from the seller so I got the VIN number, the V5 document ref number and the dates from section B and B1 on the V5 heres what I managed to find out:

Section B (date of first reg) matches section B1 (date of first reg in uk) surley B would be earlier than B1 if the car was imported

Using the V5 doc ref number I can view the MOT history which shows the car registered in 2002 had its first MOT after 3 years, am I right in thinking if the car was an import it would have an MOT after 12 months?

Finally I saw the HPI report and it showed all sections as clear wouldnt this have indicated it to be imported?

Have I missed anything? Does the car sound imported to anyone else? Is there a definitive way of telling if it is an import or not?

Any advice on how I can prove to esure the car is a UK car if it is?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Rich

Think Subaru UK can tell you this info based upon the VIN number - am also sure that someone with the knowledge here could as well

The 'Applied model code' will tell you whether it's a UK car or not.

Finally got this sorted, I rang a Subaru dealer in Coventry they looked up the VIN confirmed it was a UK model and that was good enough for Esure. In the meantime the guy selling the car dropped the price £500! Picked it up last night......Result!
