Have a 300bhp Legacy but Insurance says no to Impreza Type R?...
Evening guys.
Currently own a Legacy GTB rolling roaded at 300bhp (probably 10% optimistic), some sensible mods, cat 1 alarm etc, insured for approx £1500, in BB5 postcode. This was the cheapest I could get. I have owned the car for approx 15 months, I have a clean license, Im 28, 6 or 7 years driving experience and 5 or 6 years ncb...
But when I called up today to enquire about changing to a V5 Impreza Type R, I was told that my current insurer (Highway through Adrian Flux) could not quote me, and that all the other underwriters are coming up at £3000+ (basically "sod off, we dont want to quote you").
Now its not like I'm looking at Maserati's or something. Loads of people around here have Impreza's (3 in my village). Are they lying through their teeth? Car in their mum's name/1.8GL on the logbook etc? Or have they got a magic trick I dont know about.
Really starting to tick me off. I'd be willing to pay up to about £2000. Each time I look into insurance I hear another excuse, "It'll be cheaper when you get some NCB", then "It'll be cheaper when you pass 25", then "It'll be cheaper when you get a year's claim free motoring under your belt in this high performance car" (even though Ive had high performance cars in the past!!!).
I just don't get how others do it. I simply don't believe they're paying £250 per month.
