Default 22, new WRX owner

Hi Guys,

Just moved across from owning a 330 Coupe BMW to a 52 plate WRX.

Absolutely love it.... a totally standard example with only 2 careful owners and 70k of full main dealer history! ... all I don't like is the insurance renewal I've been quoted. Unfortunately my provider (Admiral) is the only insurance company loading policy's for Speed Awareness Courses, (I have been on 2).

Just got a renewal through at over £800 (including extra personal injury and hire car cover worth £75).

I have tried comparison sites and found them to be throwing out silly quotes of over £4k!!

I would ideally like to be paying around £600.

I am 22, 5 years no claims and a clean license (apart from Drivers Awareness)

Tried Adrian Flux and couldn't get below £1.5k

I see there are a lot of specialist companies that wont touch under 25 year olds, so I am wondering where I should go next? I have also noticed quite a few companies wont insure a Impreza full stop?

Cheers

Tom

You haven't got a hope in hell of beating £800, don't waste your time looking

You seem fairly certain of this?

Not worth going directly into a insurance shop and having a chat to an adviser... i.e A-Plan?

Cheers

You can certainly try, but I'd be amazed if any company got close to £800, let alone beat it.

ok cheers, perhaps I'll just try and be happy with what I have then :/

I think it is ridiculous that premiums are this high, I mean I have had 6 years driving and no accidents driving a range of different cars. You get some little 17yo who has a new car and writes it straight off, they should be paying the high premiums not us.

Also I don't get how having a tracker fitted increased the premium by a lot! Insurance makes no sense!

22 with a WRX and you think £800 is high?

It isn't high at all, it is very, very, very cheap.

I'm 24 and I've owned my Impreza for over 2 years now. I wish I could be paying £800!

I'd say for £800 you've got the deal of the century there. Mine cost a lot more with Keith Michaels(still the cheapest) when I was 22.

Snap that £800 up, thats a bloody amazing quote for your age and experience.

I've been looking at quotes for myself; 25 years, 8 yrs NCB, clean license, and the cheapest after all my calling around and Internet searching is £660, which I consider good.

As per Moley really, £800 @ 22 on an Impreza is very good indeed.

I'm 21 and getting quotes of 1400 for an STI, 1200 for the WRX. Sounds like a very good deal to me.

just thought I'd give you guys an update.... I contacted the insurers and told them I thought the price was steep. They informed me it was because of an accident I had 6 months ago. I have never been involved in an accident in my life, and I had been assured this was removed from my file several months ago due to a false claim. Anyway they rectified the issue and now I'm insured for £730.

That includes £45 PI cover and £30 hire car cover, so the premium is technically £655 on its own.

I guess I am happy with that apart from the very steep excess or £500!!! This is apparently because of my age (250 compulsory + 250 voluntary). Touch wood I wont need to claim as I haven't since I started driving.

Also remember that you MUST declare any drivers awareness course attendance to all firms within the Admiral group as of 6 weeks ago, i.e Bell, Elephant, Diamond etc. I declared that I had attended two so I am guessing I could have got the renewal slightly cheaper if I didn't mention them.

Would you say £650 is good then? Even with such a high excess? I did try and reduce that down but it put the premium up too much to get a £200 excess.

I bought my Scoob at 23 and paid £1100 fc and that was 12 years ago - I now pay £350 on a Fabia VRS with a clean licence and NCB coming out of my backside - your premium borders on unbelievable!

Is this guy on a wind up or something. He honestly thinks £730 for a 22 year old driving an Impreza (with their image and nickability factor) is "high".

Someone's taking the **** I think and having a laugh at our expense

(I'm 28 and pay £575 fully comp for a modified classic).

Why would I be winding anyone up? I am new to owning an Impreza and I just find the insurance ridiculous. Also, everyone says how high their premiums are but if I just got quoted 655£ then perhaps people aren't looking at the right companies? I don't live anywhere special, I'm self employed and a student so I really don't see why mine is better than any one elses.

Your premium seems about right then for a modified car....

The amount of insurance threads on here certainly means people look in the right place; normal and specialists.

I've used Phone/Internet using an unbelievable amount of time to save money (as I'm skint) and been able to get the same price as you even with me being older, having higher NCB and living in pretty much the same area, apart from the fact Wimborne I would imagine has an ever so slightly higher claims rate than where I live in Dorset.

Still seems stupidly cheap.

Is the insurance all in your name? Or have a parent, older relative on the insurance?

To be fair the only places that were this cheap were in the Admiral group. No one else came close, especially on comparison websites which started at circa £2k. Elephant and Admiral were by far the cheapest.

I will also point out I have this insured for my business use which puts the policy up £55 where as commuting to a single place of work would reduce it.

I live in a village at the top of Wimborne but the car is parked on the drive. I have both of my parents on the policy, each with full clean licenses, however I am the main driver and the legal owner. Nothing else special, I even stopped the tracker subscription as that increased the policy with Admiral! I have the millage set to 5k a year.

I suggest anyone on here calls Admiral.
