how much insurance increase for modding???
Just a question as im sure alot of you have been through this im thinking of modding my car quite heavily so will go from 276bhp to around 450bhp we all have an idea of whats involved and the parts needed so what % could i exspect my insurance to go up by??

Online quotes are no good for a 450bhp car.
To be honest most companies i deal with would refuse to quote for such an increase.
They'd want to see you can handle the car at 350bhp before considering 450bhp

Shouldn't be too much of an issue then, but depends who you're insured with.
The mainstream insurers (Admiral/Direct Line/Elephant etc) are unlikely to do it at all. The specialists on here would be flexible.
I'd guess around 25% extra.

I have that issue, Im looking to remap my Mercedes B200 Turbo but going from 195bhp to 225bhp is taking me from £515 to £1200. Moley wont insure BD postcodes so Im stuck with 'normal' companies.
At the moment I have to pay a £300 increase just for the factory fit spoiler on the roof (very subtle). I havent even bothered trying doing a quote for the spoiler and remap together.

Or in the case of Bradford, the majority spoil it for the minority.
I drove into the centre of Bradford last week...good grief they are terrible drivers there.

Interesting has this changed? I phoned you 18 months ago and as soon as I mentioned BD... Was told that you don't cover them.
Is a Mercedes B200 Turbo a specialist car?

Yes, has changed in the last 12 months.
Unfortunately the Merc isn't a specialist car. It's the 2nd use, modified/performance cars we're after, in particular the Jap stuff.

What is second use?
Mine have modifications which is why my comparison site searches add £300 to a £500 quote. Im also thinking about remapping it but getting out priced at the moment.

I had an interesting conversation with someone today who had a claim on an A3 Audi SE. The insurance co. had said that because it had an S line body kit on it they would not pay out. He argued that he bought it like this and had no idea whether the kit was standard or not. As it transpired that the S line kit was genuine Audi kit fitted by the previous owner he eventually got his money through.
It does seem unfair that with modding declarations there appear to be no options to differentiate between subtle manufacturer body styling packs from the full blown Halfords special tea trays you see on the back of the older Vectras etc. I would imagine that the intentions of fitting both would be completely different but do insurance companies give options that reflect this?

Different insurers have different views, some will view manufacturer kits as optional extras and not charge extra, others will load for them, or even refuse to quote full stop.
We even use some companies who will refuse to quote if the car ISN'T modified
There is no definitive answer, other than speak to the individual company.

Fair enough but appreciate the info regarding mods. I think Ill try a new approach, put in a quote for standard and contact the cheapest ones with my factory fit mods to see if they will except them.
