not sure in the legality of named driver, but i know some insurance companies have refused to pay out because of it.
give gary moulsen a ring for a chat, sure he can advise the best course of action

let me know if you find anything decent. im looking for insurance on my p1 at the moment as well. im 24 with 3 years ncb, clean licence etc and was with bell. now they sent me a renewal of £2500 with the cheapest online qoute i can get is £2000. ive had KM qoute me better, but still thinks its a bit expensive considering i have 3 years ncb with no claims, accidents etc.

Do you realsie that the 3rd party extension you have from your insurance only covers you on another vechicle which is not in your name and is insured?
I renewed today 330bhp RB5 im 26 5NCD no convictions with Keith Micheals for £640 fully comp all mods declared.

the problem you have got in the eyes of the insurence companys is your 21 so your high risk straight away then you only have 2 years no claims which isnt alot and you want to get a qoute on a p1 which is group 19/20 for about 1500 quid dont take this the wrong way but i think you are asking to much there i paid 1000 quid for mine as a second car with 4 years no claims at 26 and a history of high preformance cars and it wasnt much cheaper use the 7 years no claims of my main car

This loophole was closed some time back, if you own and are the registered keeper of the car then you have to insure it, if you dont and are a named driver, then your breaking the law and are not insured at all, and if your insurance co see this then they may take action against you and cancel your insurance.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

To be fair anything under 25 you are looking at a fortune some companies wont insure any turbo imprezas of any sort until you are 25 so snap the 1500 pound quote up.
Im 26 with 7 years and the run of the mill insurance co's still quote me up to 3000pound!!!!
A plan for £600 comprehensive was my best quote.

Seems weird how the prices vary. When I was 22, Ecar insured my UK Scoob for £1750. Yep sounds a lot until you realise I had been driving 9 months on total Totally legit and went down £500 the year after.
Just renewed with Moley today (after a fruitful chat about all sorts ) on my group 14 205 GTi - £400 Thats probably not a brilliant postcode, TS10 points and 2 non fault claims (25 3 years NCB).
I'd assume a Scoob for me now (say classic UK turbo or WRX) would be around £750-850 fully comp.
The O.P. needs to stop scamming the system and accept he's 21 and will pay high insurance for a couple years yet at least

Try adding someone older
Insurance can sometimes drop when you turn 30 - did for me anyway - sometime ago unfortunately!
Try quotes with someone older on the policy if you can. I did this years ago on my Accord type R with Elephant.co.uk. For me - 28 at the time with full NCB and no accidents or convictions I added the missus on who was 31 at the time and the premium came down from £700 to £550 (still have the paperwork for this as I was so suprised at the time) - just for adding her as a named driver. It was insured in my name still with me as main driver - no funny 'Other vehicle third party' stuff going on. Try it online - if you haven't already, and see if it makes a difference. Worth a few minutes of your time trying.
Good luck.

Just so everyone knows. its called fronting! and your lucky the insurance company didnt find out about it. cat 1 non-disclosure, maybe lose the money you paid. have the insurance cancelled from inception etc etc. the list goes on of the things they could of done.
but good luck with the quote hunting. and some of those prices you seen will not include a 9% dd charge if you decide to pay that way. just to let you know.
admiral trying screwing me. gave 10% off if paying annual. but when i said dd. they took off the 10% and added 9-10%.
so just be careful. and always read the policy wording before you take out policy.

Some direct companies charge massive amounts extra for paying on direct debit.
I know of one guy who was quoted £1200, but they wanted an extra £500 to pay on direct debit!!!
