I have noticed the various comments about buying car insurance from the country's largest supermarket.
I was given the steer by my mate who insures his RB5 with them. Their quote for my car was competitive and the terms of their cover are very acceptable.
Last week I upgraded my policy to cover full decat zorst, air filter, new alloys, FO rear wing, suspension upgrade, big brake upgrade and misc cosmetics and a declared 20% BHP uplift and they charged me £260. Tell me if I'm crazy but I am really pleased considering they are covering £6,700 of mods on a car left on the street in a somewhat dodgy town.
My point is that I think they are well worth a try if you are shopping around for Impreza insurance and subsequent mods are reasonably charged (they tried the above mods with nill BHP increase and their computer showed a £115 increase).
I will post my next premium adjustment when I change to 285BHP in the near future (the above figures are based on eight months of current cover - NOTE!).

my yearly premium was worked out as of october last year and was £750 all in as car is now apart from eibachs, only had to pay a couple of hundred though a only had 4 ish months left on policy, but my renewal is up on 21 of march so will have to wait and see what it will be then.
spoke to somebody off here the other day on the phone and he said that tescos now require trackers on all my01's after jan02,will also have to see if i can get out of that as i dont fancy forking out 400 quid on one of them plus 700 ish for the premium.
will post up cost when they send me renewel

Tesco seem to be "mod" friendly .. Declared morette's & colour coded indicators on MY01 WRX . They consider just a cosmetic change and did not charge extra. Still the cheapest ! but I think tracker will be a must on renewal in Sept 02 . Better start saving ! Or spend money on SS backbox just for fun !

Tesco are very resonable with mods as long as its not performance mods. I declared rallytech spoiler, colour coded side skirts, morrettes & possible change of backbox & no extra on premium. I then told them aout alloys & that started to rise quite a bit!! However, they insisted on a tracker otherwise the car would not be covered for theft!! Damn!!

Mod friendly, your having a laugh. Just phoned Tesco up to enquire about adding a scoobysport backbox on my MY99, "That is classed as performance enhancing, an extra £144.90!!!
Still trying to get over the shock, and thanking god than I did not buy the BB.
Anyone got any good lines which I can use to try to get the BB on at as little extra as possible.

Mod Friendly ..

I suppose I stand corrected ! My next proposed mod is SS backbox for MY01 WRX...So I will be contacting them soon to see how much they want to sting me for it ....
It does seem as long as it is not a "performance" mod they don't hike the premiums !
We will see !!!

Yep, Tesco have been very reasonable on mods with me to. Their admin has been a bit screwy in getting everything confirmed in writing, but probably no worse than other companies..
No charge for Eibachs or Goodridge hoses, about £30pa to go <10% power increase, and then about another £50pa to go 11-20% today.
My premium is still less than £700, but then I did take a big excess!
Cheers

Tesco's don't report ickle mods in steps you will pay more in the long run. They seem to work on Std premium plus 8% each £1K step plus 12% for power increase in 10% jumps.(rough calculation from previous quotes I had)
so best to report once FULL system at £999 + 20% gain than
£400 B/Box plus 10% gain then £400 Down pipe + 10% gain then £200 centre pipe 0% gain etc.IMHO

Just got a mailshot offering 2000 clubcard points (what!) and up to 30% discount on house insurance for being a car insurer. Wifey is now insuring her car with them so they seem intent on taking a stronghold in the insurance market. Long live competition!

Great premium of £597 for my new STI7 but when I started talking exhausts and performance extras it was getting out of hand. The biggest shock i got was when we were discussing my 6 points. The 6 months difference between getting caught and being convicted added £100 to my premium. I originally quoted the getting caught date and they work on conviction date. 3 of the points is less than 2 years old maybe thats why. Anyone know for sure

I've just taken up my insurance with Tesco. They seemed knowledgablr about mods, and very clear (I've got some mods), explaining about the 10% bhp increase and then 20% bhp increase. Also told no increase for brake upgrade - the next thing to do on my list.
Plus - they were half the price my current insurer asked for on renewal - I think they were having a laugh!
Edited to add that they asked for a tracker to be fitted - but that was the first thing I got for the Scoob when I bough it a year ago.

Is the tracker a new requirement for renewals? I asked last week if i need a tracker (7 months remaining)and was told that my Cat 1 Thatcham is adequate.
Do we need some clarification from their underwriters or have I missed the trick here?

Chaps,
Not wanting to start a scare but I've heard a few horror stories about Tescos and mods recently.
Some people have been charged extra for their mods but their policies and the insurer's own records have not been properly noted.
I don't mean to criticise the competition but, as a fellow Scoob enthusiast, I would seriously recommend that you check that they are fully aware of what mods you have carried out and that they have properly noted their records. Take full names and/or quote references too if possible.
If a claim occurs and the engineer sees that your vehicle has been modded and the policy has not been endorsed, they can play silly bu99ers when it comes to paying out.
Make sure you have something in writing to back it all up whoever you are insured with.
Cheers,
John
