Ahhhh - blooming insurance!!!
You may have read one of my many threads where I am after a new Scooby.
Well, I had been deliberating over an WRX PPP and STi and carried out an online insurance quote from Tesco for a WRX PPP (using an existing number plate off the car I was looking at). Insurance for me was £642 (although the description of the car did not menion PPP - should it have?)
However, I decided just now to do a search on an STi I quite liked the look of. This is a bog-standard STi by the way (unmapped) through Tesco - £1109.
I think I may just end up sticking to a WRX (remapped) me thinks as the STi is almost double.

I started off with a 93 wrx, paying about 800 for insurance.
Upgraded to a 97 sti after making sure quotes werent too bad.
Because i only had 2 months left on my existing policy i thought i'd get the policy changed to the sti for the remainder, but they wouldnt insure me on that spec of car (even though they were the cheapest i could find for a wrx).
So just cancelled insurance with them and went with a specialist group and ended up paying less for the sti than i did for the wrx

Beware...
Tesco's do not know what a PPP is.... and it will invalidate your insurance if u fail to inform them the WRX is MODIFIED!
Use a Subaru friendly insurance company like A-plan, or Liverpool and Vic (or some other one's people may suggest!)

Thanks guys.
I've always been with Tesco so thought I would get a quote of them again although my current car is an unmodified Civic Type-R. I was a bit wary when I got a quote for the WRX PPP as the description only showed the car as being a WRX.
As for my status...
Male
30 years old (31 in a few months)
5 years NCB
10 years licence holder
Clean licence (no points at all)

You should be fine with insurance with that info.
Tesco are great for anything that's not been tinkered with... as soon as you add a PPP or change the alloys they throw the toys out the pram and hike up the premium (basically saying no thanks).
Other insurance company's are more willing to take on the risk, shop around and happy hunting.

As has been mentioned, have a chat to Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels, at least he will know what you are talking about, unlike the usual useless lot most insurers have sitting in their call centres and will give you a much better quote than the likes of Tesco.
