Question Insisting on repair not write off?

Just a quick question for those in the know.

I've an old Pug 205 Diesel that is a good runner, but obviously not worth more than a few hundred quid.

It got hit in the boot whilst I was stationary the other day, but because of the cost of the new bumper and some work to the boot floor I'm being told it's probably going to be a write off.

Now, considering that it wasn't my fault, and that the car's still a good 'un for my needs, can I insist that the other guy's insurers pay to have my car fixed, or is there some sort of "Insurer's Agreement" that means the car gets written off regardless?

If it does, I shall most likely ask for it back and get it back on the road - don't know how that'll affect my future insurance on it though?

Thanks,
Steve

There will also be no problem insuring it after.

If they write the car off you should be able to but it back, aslong as they don't class it is a cat A or B (which they shouldn't do). Will probably be a cat D.

Should be peanuts to buy it back, but it'll have to have a VIC (i think) check.

I reckon age and cost it will def be a cat C. As mentioned will need a Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) before you can get the logbook back. Its done by VOSA, 19 quid I think.
