classic car insurance - info needed
as many know im currently running around in a pug 205gti.
now shes on a 88 f-plate, and i was wondering whats the crack with classic insurance.
i heard from a good friend that as the car is 20 years old in november (insurance due in december), i may be able to get it covered as a classic, which is cheaper
whats the general in's and out's to this type of cover?
is there any catches i should be aware of?
who does good classic car insurance?
ive only just turned 24 too, so is my age a benefactor in this, ie minimum of 25+ etc like for other types of insurance.
any help or info is appreciated.

A few things:-
- 20 years may not be a "magic age". Some insurers may consider younger cars.
- But they might only consider a younger car if it isn't your main car.
- Mileage may be restricted to a limit that isn't practical for you.
- You might need to have full no claims to put the car on classic insurance.
- You might be too young at under 25.
- The car may need to be garaged (it is a valuable classic, after all )
- They may insist on comprehensive cover only.
Your best bet is probably to buy a copy of Practical Classics and have a look at the ads in the back pages then get phoning or hitting the websites.
My knowledge of classic insurance isn't totally up to date, but these are all restrictions that were imposed in the past.

I had my last 205 on classic insurance.
It had to be over 10 years old. Limited mileage and you had to be over 25.
Least that was the policies I was looking at.

Any links to good classic car insurance?
Depending how limited the mileage is and the age could be the decider.
Thats if I can afford a new round of car insurance in December. If not she'll be up for sale and I'll have to get a push bike I reckon.

Really
I've had a look today on the usual comparison webistes. most wanted over £1000 but Virgin insurance came back with £635 fully comp, which is probably £3-400 less than I'm paying this year. It's valid until dec. 31st too
I may give you a call Gary, see if you can better that.
