My insurance last year was £772.60 fully comp. That was aged 25 with 4yrs no claims, standard car & two SP30's. I'm now gonna be 26 with 5yrs no claims, the same two SP30's, an SP50 & a car with a stainless exhaust & air filter. I just got quoted £2,234.56 If I can't get the premium to nearer a grand the car's gonna have to go & I don't want that. I'm awaiting quotes from Adrian Flux, Greenlight & Roadsure which i'm hoping will be a little nicer but is anyone in the same sort of situation that has managed to get reasonable insurance?

have a look, but i think they require scoobs to have a tracker fitted.

worth a try.

They do require a tracker & there's only enough room for two convictions & it doesn't mention mods

Thanks anyway

MAFFA,
Give Tom (Rum*) @ schofields a ring, if he insures me he should insure anybody his number is 0113 250 0377

note: think you will need tracker though, but not 100 percent sure on that.

I'm paying 1400 quid, which is better than 2k, and that's with me being 27, 4 yrs ncb, parked on street, jap import, modified, in other words, a worst case sceanrio!

Markus,

Thanks for pointing me in that direction but you are right about the tracker. They also require the car to be garaged as it's a UK car. They apparently are more competetive with imports.

Just for those of you who are interested in what quotes a guy in my position get's, here's the story so far:

A Plan - £2625.00
Schofields -Will not insure (tracker & garage required)
Adrian Flux - £1392.00
Frizzell - £1290.58
Greenlight - £1098.00
Tesco - £1560.30 (with a tracker fitted)
Privilege - £1850.00 (with tracker fitted)

So far Greenlight have got my money but i'll keep going.

Paul,

Greenlight will now only cover UK cars, but here's their number: 01277 263030

They were the most competitive for my last car (heavily mod'd MY99 UK). With all my modifications declared (hybrid turbo, FMIC, Link, brakes, exhaust and all cosmetic changes), 5 years NCB, garaged, alarmed, tracker, barrier deadlock, with Class 1 business use, was £1200.

Question

Maffa

Have you tried Barclays? Im not with them myself but have read previous threads in this forum that seem to suggest they are quite reasonable.

Maffa,

I've just received my renewal through from Greenlight on MY 95WRX and it only went up by £25 from last year, I was worried about them not taking on Imports any more but as I'm a previous customer they're continuing to offer me cover.

Oh by the way I'm 31, 3years NCB, 1 SP30, insured for me & Girlfriend to drive with car parked on Driveway with CAT1 alarm cost £980... Still gonna shop around and maybe see if I can get discount fron Greenlight being a SIDC member.

Just got an online quote from Tesco and it was £1412 and it wanted me to have a tracker fitted, I think I'll stick to buying my bread from them and not car insurance.

O.M.

I'm with Barclays... their policies are competetive for quality and price. The service seems very efficient and polite too.

Barclays 0870 6001414

Cheers,

Alex

So far Greenlight are by far the most competetive & I don't think i'm gonna get much lower with my past driving history. I've tried Barclays & Norwich Union Direct (in fact I don't think there are any I haven't tried) & non of them come close.

Anyway looks like I can keep the car

To be fair Maffa, I think the Greenlight quote is quite reasonable, especially I know about your driving record!!

Is it worth considering removing the exhaust and insuring a standard car?

Just a thought
