im sure you can hold your no claims for a year, as long as you keep the evedence of how many years you have, either as a renewal document from your current insurer, also you can ask your insurer for a document stating how many no claims you have to pass onto the next insurer

If you have not sold your car by the time you renew your policy, you will still need to keep the car insured so all you do when you finally sell your car is to ask your insurers to suspend your policy. This means they will keep the policy open without affecting your NCB. I have two policies but only one car at the moment, so I put one policy on suspension and when that came up for renewal, I put the other policy on suspension and re-activated the suspended one. This way I keep two lots of NCB ticking over nicely until I get around to getting another car - and I use one insurer's renewal quote to drive the second one's quote down and vice-versa when I renew too!!
