Don't want to spend alot of money putting it all in to find i only get sod all back if it's nicked and would i have to tell my insurance company that a) i have a bigger install - i probably would just to be on the safe side and b) that it was covered separatley.

Any help from any insuance bods would be great

Hi Scoob,

Entertainment & Leisure used to offer that kind of cover, their details are as follows:

http://www.eandl.co.uk/contact-us

Another option would be checking with your Home Insurance provider, as they may be able to include under 'all risks' items (bearing in mind they'd cover i-pods/mobile phones outside home).

Kind regards

Tony

Still no joy on this front ....house will only cover up to £2000 (covers my headunit)
Every one else will cover but only if you insure your car and then only up to about 1700 quid.

Are you telling me that all the install's I've seen in my life aren't insured and sit there merrily at the owners risk??????? come on

This could be the start of niche in the market - how do you set up your own insurance company?????????

And yes, for what it's worth, I do have all the receipts.

SOMEONE MUST KNOW SOMETHING

1. The minimum premium (written per year) required to be recognised as a UK Insurer is £10m

2. The solvency margain used to be £1m (based upon YR 2000 requirement) upon that level of business, so you would require at least £1m equity/capital behind you for that

3. Reinsurance upon a £10m book of business would be est £650k per year

4. FSA licensing & regulation would be required - to achieve this you would have to meet all FSA stipulated requirements for an Insurer and would need to demonstrate compliance/adherance on an ongoing basis

Or..

An easier option would be to convince an existing Underwriter that unattended in car entertainment, an element of which would be visible is a decent proposition from an Insurance perspective.

The 2nd option is clearly the more viable, but you would need to either convince a direct writer to do so, or an authorised agent to lobby an Underwriter to establish a scheme.

E&L used to offer cover for this kind of thing on a stand alone bases, but presumably our prior recommendation of Entertainment & leisure back in September could not offer terms for your in-car entertainment items?

Greenlight have been negotiating with a non-motor underwriter to develop this extension as an add-on under a specialist household scheme. Once established we will let members know & promote on here.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Dave,

Just had another thought, some maufacturers of audio/in-car entertainment do provide Insurance cover (in addition to warranty) for the first year against damage/theft.

If you could check your receipts/guarantee etc. and managed to see the Underwriter that offered cover for this to Sony/Kenwood/Pioneer you could contact them with a view to extending the cover.

What you are looking for is an Insurable proposition, it just needs some groundwork & a scheme to be established to do so.

Kind regards

Tony

thanks for your reply's Tony, they are of great help

Unfortunately most of my stuff is over a year old and (still) didn't have the foresight to increase the manufacturer warranty.

Just another quick question for you Tony; If, for example, someone had a headunit that was a limited edition, only 100 were made, it was way more expensive than the current top of the range (like for like), there was a receipt that proves the cost and it was stolen - what would happen about a replacement???????

Cheers in advance

Dave

p.s. If you guys fancy covering my install please let me know (can I be the first on the new scheme??). I should hate anything to happen to it after the blood, sweat and grazed knuckles.
