Default FAO owners of modified cars

Through a mate I was put in touch with Competition Car Insurance, AKA THB Egger Lawson in Nottingham. They have just started a new policy in conjunction with Demon Tweeks for cars with in excess of £3000 of modifications.

To cut a long story short, they will insure your car agreed value, so long as you can back up the value with receipts or a valuation from a reputable garage. You also need to provide photos.

This last year I've been insured by A-Plan who have been excellent. One issue I've had with their policy though is that while they cover you to drive the car with the mods, if it is stolen or damaged they only value the car as standard. This is a particular issue for me as I have a MY99 UK, probably worth £6500 or so, but £10,000 worth of modifications. In the event of a total loss claim I could only expect the value of the car in standard form, ie £6500. Therefore I was seriously under-insured.

Competition Car Insurance's quote is within £20 of my A-Plan renewal cost (£730 plays £710) yet are offering £16,200 agreed value, ie if the car is lost, they pay £16,200.

If you have more than £3k worth of modifications, gotta be worth a call when your renwal is due. Ask to speak to Steve and mention that it is the Demon Tweeks modified policy that you're interested in. 0115 941 5255

Oh, and I have no connection with CCI, just a rather amazed new customer

Sounds good

Keith Michaels and Greenlight will obviously cover your mods like-for-like, but to find an agreed value policy can be very difficult.

As with all policies, will be interesting to see what happens in the event of a claim.

Er, they are insuring it "Agreed value". Agreed value means that in the event of total loss, they pay out the agreed value. Hence the term "agreed value".

Sounds like a good policy, and the underwriter they use is a very good one.
