Insurance for 2 cars
Hi Folks,
Can anyone tell me the score when insuring 2 cars. I have just called my Insurance company L/V to ask how much it would cost to put on a scooby as a second car. They quoted me £1100, as a second car only carries 1 year N/C. 2 years ago i was insuring a scooby with L/V for £450.
I thought you could put 2 cars on 1 policy.
Basically if i swop my 10 years N/C to the scooby and use the 1 year second car N/C on my 306 HDI, it will still cost £1200. This seems crazy to me, i thought it was cheaper and easier than that to insure 2 cars.
Can anyone advise me please, iv'e never insured 2 cars before?
Cheers
James

Hi James,
Unfortunately, not all Insurers allow you to put both cars upon one policy. In fact, most dont.
Also, you will normally find that unless the vehicles are similar (ie. performance & performance, Van & Van, Diesel & Diesel) the Insurer in question isnt usually going to be competitive for both. This being due to differing underwriters usually only looking to cover specific areas of the market.
Our suggestion to you would be to put your higher NCB upon the highest rated vehicle (ie. the Subaru), the lesser NCB upon the diesel & providing you meet certain criteria we (or some other Insurers) would be able to source a policy that "mirrors" the percentage across to the 2nd car.
We also offer a concession for limited mileage, so if the diesel is the everyday car and we can limit the road exposure for the scoob, we will be able to further reduce your premium.
If you get 5 mins spare I'd be happy to try my best for you, pop the subaru & the 306 onto www.greenlightinsurance.com with the NCB levels shown as above (ie. max ncb on Subaru/ 1yr ncb on 306).
PM me once you've done this & i'll give the quote team a nudge for you
Kind regards
Tony
