Imported and modded
#1
Crikes what a nightmare trying to get insurance at the moment.
There seems to be no-one out there hardly.
The main player Norwich Union has jacked up premiums by a ridiculous level, making them uncompetitive against AXA - so before you bother ask if NU is the underwriter - then put the phone down.
I got a quote from Privelge last year for £1300 - this year £2350, with an excess of £850 - dream on - and that for a standard quote - and I've full no claims and never had an accident!
I'm trying to insure a highly modded sti5 - circa 360hp - best quote so far about £2250 from A Plan. the quote was low until I mentioned about £15k of mods - nevermind!
Can anyone tell me if theres anyone who specialises in insurance for imports that are also modded
I've tried
Keith Michaels - wont quote
Adrian Flux - can never get through - have tried for a week now
Greenlight - not competitive
A Plan - best so far - but no track day cover!
Privelge - crap
Barclays - no good as dont cover you to drive other cars third party - which is desirable
Bennets Elite
NFU Mutual - only quote to existing customers with imported cars - i.e. no new import business
Any suggestions?

What? I'm insured with Barclays, and am sitting at work with a borrowed car outside - if you're right, Ill be driving home without insurance tonight (just like I have for the last week). Oops, I'd better check.
PS - 15k of mods - £1300 must have been a bargain - let us know who's the best for you.

Nah, the premium increase was because of the £10k Airbrake he had fitted !!!
Sourced it from a Harrier :-)
Either that or the McLaren F1 brakes he had fitted after his fly past (Harrier ???) at Nont Sar's (North West Meet 2).
:-) :-) :-) :-)

Are you two in business as a comedy act!
I'll have you know that I've only had to replace the license once! - cos of insufficent room in the conviction section!
Braking will be better very soon as the AP 4 pots are going on - I was going to get 17ich Supers and put the 6 pots on - but I decided to keep the'cosmetic mods to a minimum'
GavinP - I'll try them - but they were very high last year!
Trigaar - they do not do cover for third party cover - for anyone - thats what they told me this year, and thats what they said last year - 'for all'(Barclays use Privelege) - I would have used them last year if it was not for this as they were the cheapest - with a £100 excess - I'd recheck immediately!
Tim, Highway - who Keith M uses cant do it! - something about multiple bans! and no chance.
I'll keep trying - just trying to get under £2k - A Plan will do it for less on restriced mileage - its worth doing this for me as the excess is only £250 higher if you exceed the mileage - then again the excess was £500 unmodded and £1000 for the modded car!
I'm testing the car out tomorrow on the French roads - yipeeeeeee.
