Went from MY00, to PPP, now added K&N induction and am going to add Black Diamond dics/braided hoses and Falkland twin dump downpipe. Direct Line have been very helpful - basically they are interested in total BHP increase which was just 10% with PPP and will be under 20% with all the rest. No extra charge to go from 10-20% until renewal (albeit 3 weeks). No charge for the brakes or the exhaust per-se. I hope I am as impressed come renewal time. I think since the merger or takeover with Privilege they are a lot more sensible about mods. Tried a quote from Elephant.co.uk but you have to pay premium rate to speak to them as the on-line chat is always busy. Their system was very mod-friendly and on-line you can mix and match your mods and see the effect on premium. Overall, there website had a few bugs and I don't like the fact it is difficult to talk to them - I'm not paying 60ppm to wait in a queue.

John,
Just FYI, The Royal Bank Of Scotland is the parent of both Direct Line and Privilege. When Direct Line was up and running in the early 90's they set up Privilege to deal with the performance end of the market. I found it strange that when I got my quotes that Direct Line beat Privilege by about £50?
Insurance wise I am also with Direct Line and it will be interesting to see how my premium has changed for MY00 as I have full S/S exhaust, PPP and recently 3 points on my licence . I also want to possibly put the K&N Induction Kit on, so I may chase a quote incorporating this.
My renewal is not while early November so it will be interesting to see what your premium will be.
Regards,
Damian.

You've had a different experience with elephant than me, then. I've just got my Elise insured with them, and needed to clarify something on the phone. So, rather than dial their premium rate number, I clicked on the 'call me' icon on the site, gave my mobile number (was on-line from home) and got a call back about 30 seconds later. Presumably they foot the bill for the call to the mobile, but I'll check my next statement!
No idea how mod-friendly they are, though!

My renewal notice just arrived from Direct Line - £850 so I went to ANOTHER insurance company owned by Royal Bank of Scotland called Tesco Insurance! They quoted me some £250 less! I have gone Privilege (dreadful claims service even if it's not your fault). Direct Line (didnt test their admin) and most likely Tesco. Dont know what RBS is at Food for thought.

Insurance companies seem very unpredictable. TonyBurns I think got a better quote from DL than Priv as did I last time, but it often changes. I'll get some quotes from Tesco and Priv and Elephant - if they respond! come renewal time.

I had quite a bizzare experiance with Direct Line. When I originally took out my policy it was limited to 12,000 miles, I called to up this to 15,000 and they charged me an extra £40 - £50 (fair enough ). Then the other day I called to up it to 18,000 - no extra charge

I was quoted £1175 by Direct Line and £750 by Privilege! Both seem quite steep for a 35yr old with full no claims. Both wanted Cat1/2 AND Tracker even though it will be parked in a garage.

I have just had renewal notice through - £1280. This is MY00 with brakes, engine increase in power 20%, performance exhaust and air filter and ECU change. Elephant quoted £1563. This is based on 28 female 3yr NCB (one claim non-fault), with me 26 male named (two fault claims - one vandalism, one £11k write off but 3yrs NCB). Covers business use, legal prot, 10000 miles/yr. Doesn't seem too bad considering the risk profile? Having said that I'm not exactly laughing paying it!

i was testing quotes on a internet site and found at 10k, 11k ,14k and 18k miles there seemd to be price differnces so it looks like they calculate it in bands, presumably based on risk.(kinda like post codes i guess)
