Got myself a tracker fitted as required by DL. Sent of the subscription as proof of fitment.
Lamebrains have bounced it as it does not prove I have a tracker fitted. Like I would fork out £100 for something I don't have!
Still they were £300 cheaper than almost all the rest, including Greenlight.

Neanderthal,
You will probably find that in the event of a claim/theft they would ask for proof at that time...if they then found that the system was not operational...or worse still you didn't actually have one fitted (I'm not suggesting this is the case with you )...then you'd probaly find that Theft cover was excluded...

It's ok, I have got one fitted. Just a bit shocked that they didn't ask for any details what so ever about it after I put a tick in the "have tracker" box on the on-line form (and when I recieved the hard copies through the post).
I've had a motorbike previously that had a data tracker on it and I was asked to supply proof of it when I insured it. I was kinda expecting the same deal with the tracker.
What you said made sense though. If the car was stolen (God forbid!!) and I had to make a claim, it would be a little difficult explaining that I haven't got any tracker details etc.

Direct line could not make up their mind with me, when I phoned for the quote they did not mention a tracker, But when within 2 weeks when i started the ins they said i needed one.
I asked about the change of mind and they checked their files for the original offer and said sorry you dont need one.
So fully comp ins £750 pa

Hi All
I am insured with DL, back in May via their web site. A tracker was not required then only a Cat1 alarm system. Now though, the web site says I require one to re-insure my car .

Well that *******cks, 'cos I didn't get the choice and I told them that the car cost less than £20k.
They went below muppets IMHO when I got a call from some nice lady in Cambridge who was being told to get a tracker fitted to her Nova.
DL had got the policy numbers mixed up. So now she knows my security details. Glad it wasn't some dodgy essex gezzer with a Range Rover

Nigel,
She must have been a tad surprised when the premium confirmation came through!
I guess a more specialised insurer would give a more consistent response but would probably find it dificult to meet the premium levels that the large direct companies use to capture market share (have a look at the discussion thread in the import insurance section).
I guess we have to be equally hopeful that they are as dilligent when the claim goes in (who am I kidding!)

You have to supply them with an original installation form, which I did (having complained that I did not want to send the original).
Phoned up a couple of months later to say that my spoiler had been stolen, would they amend my policy to state my car did not have a rear spoiler, errrr that's ok, I was told. Never got my revised certificate, phoned up a few weeks later to say I had the Sti V5 rear wing fitted, could not record this on their system as the only spoiler that could be fitted was a low level one, so they put that in.
Got the revised cetificate of insurance a week later, along with a note saying I was not covered if my car was stolen as they did not have proof of my tracker (I was paying a 4 figure sum for 3rd party on a £17k car ) Phoned up, got told they needed the original certificate, went back to the installers, got a perfect photocopy of their original, sent that with a letter saying that this was all I could do, if they needed any further proof they should get in touch with the installers direct giving their phone number.
The next time I changed my details I did not get the your car is not covered if stolen letter, so they obviously managed to get by with the photocopy. Unfortunately insurance companies will not return photocopies, so every time I change insurers I have to pop back in to the installers and get them to make another one up for me
Good for cheap quotes, unfortunately can't do much else IMHO.

They were happy with a faxed copy of my installation cert. Got the letter confirming all OK 2/3 days later.
I was tempted to write and complain that they had sent sensitive security info to a 3rd party but decided against it. They were cheaper than anybody else (£650 pa), so didn't want to rock the boat.
Anyway where would it get to? I'd just end up dealing with a jobsworth, and get hassle.

Erm so far i've found DL to be no probs on my scooby (MY97)insurance as while they did want a proof that i had a tracker & cat1 alarm etc fitted. Easy money i just faxed them the registration document from the previous owner on the tracker front & the cat1 certificate of compliance & bish bosh a few days later got a letter saying i was now fully covered against theft etc. So it seems all they wanted was 2 make sure a tracker was installed on this vehicle but they did check i was going to be covered so i don't think u'd get away with not paying 2 have it work!?!?!?
Considering i'm only 24 years old i was relatively pleased to only get a bill for £1450 on the insurance front & forking out a mere £100 or so per year for a tracker, which they insisted on, not only seems like a good deal from an insurance point of view(as it was a good few hundred quid better than the next best quote) but also goes sum way 2 alliviate any paranoi about sum nasty villain playing with my new toy
