Sorry :-(

It's taken me quite a while to find an unmodified Impreza that I can afford.

I'm not going to add any mods to it I don't think.

Maybe some better alloys, when the bank account can take it (which if my dads scare stories about the cost of servicing a Subaru are true - never!)

I hear that Tesco allow some modifications?
They quoted me about £850ish

Just looked at their web-site and they don't appear to do mods...

Thumbs down

My broker (Catteralls) told me today that AXA don't want Impreza business anymore and that was why my renewal premium was twice!! what I paid last year (£503 - £1047!!!!!)Well they sure as hell aren't getting my business!

They certainly used to do mods as my minimal mods were declared.

I am now insured with Norwich Union Direct. MY98. Scoobysport mid section and backbox, driving lights and 4 pots declared. Me 31, wife 30, no points, no accidents. Garaged. SDP & commuting.

£584.87.

Adding the wife to the insurance took £62.72 OFF the quote.
WHY???? She has less no claims than me and has been driving about half as long.

I don't think it would go down well if I suggested to my girlfriend we should get married cause it'll make my car insurance cheaper :-)

I suppose they think that if you are married then you are more responsable than us single guys (in the eyes of insurance people).

Question

Neanderthal,
If you don't mind me asking - Who's financing your second hand Subaru and what are the rates like?

AXA have just put mine up from £790 to £1052 So I see a pattern emerging here (Mine is a jap import with basic mods) Just rung Rum @ Schofields and he put me onto John for a quote - £785 inc mods and no claims protection. 31, single, not garaged but on rear drive, cosmetic mods, full no claims and upto 7000 miles a year. Was going to ring around but Rum and John were very helpful and I prefer to deal with real people who know what there talking about rather than some underpaid/ undertrained call centre staff, especially when it comes to mods and claims Cheers guys

I couldn't believe their quote when I got it so I did it 4 times just to make sure.

Get this though, the Subaru I'm getting has got a CAT1 Alarm & Imobiliser and a tracker so I ticked the appropriate boxes on the website. I've got the insurance papers through and they don't even ask to have the details (or proof) of the alarm & tracker!

Matt (feeling particularly lucky - but not looking forward to the renewal in a years time) Coleman
