I have just had a meeting with Silverstone Insurance about the club scheme.

The policies will be underwritten by Norwich Union. Most mods and track cover are OK and they will give £35 off the lowest price we can get out of them (by way of a voucher that we will give to every club member).

We will have a dedicated number to call, early next week, and full details will be in the next issue of True Grip.

I should add, that you will be asked for your SIDC member number when calling and the scheme will only be available for club members.

Please don't post loads of questions here, there isn't more to add. The rest will be between you and them, when you call.

Pete,
Unfortunatley too late for me by 2 weeks!

Do you know if they will be 'grey' friendly?

Please don't phone the number given as it is a private number.

The correct number is 01604 546905.

Please don't call unless your insurance is due in the next 30 days.

The line is manned 9am to 6pm, Mon to Friday

Question

Pete

Is the scheme intended to also cover SIDC member's other cars? Or just Scoobs?

just to update this post
Silverstone Insurance & NU are the same co
but this number will get you straight through to NU who are not aware of the scheme
I have been in contact with both and will update when they tell me more, but it seems positive & super work done by Pete.

Called the number this morning, they answered "Hill House Hammond"...?!

Mentioned SIDC, seemed to cause all sorts of confusion "who are the FDC?" "Why do we need your membership number?", but seemed to work out OK, and they took my Membership Number eventually.

(Put on hold several times: muzac seemed to be a badly cut copy of the first 15 seconds intro of Elton John, "sacrifice" )

They'd never heard of Trackstar, didn't know it was a tracking device

(more terrible elton john intros)

quote took a little longer than "normal" because they had to run it through "the special scheme"

(muzac again: aaaaargh)

Best quote they could provide was £1403, 600XS for me and my P1 (unmodified, not garaged, dodgy postcode, full NCB, one conviction)

Best quote to date has been Greenlight, £1100 with a £400XS

Thanks for arranging the scheme and at least providing the option, though Pete

Cameron

I got a quote which was 50% higher than I paid last year (circumstances haven't changed), and was higher than 80% of the quotes I got last year. They never asked for any membership number.

I think I'll wait for my renewal to come through before deciding if it was a good quote or not.

I took them up on their £525 as it seemed reasonable, well Admiral didn't want to have me after they paid out on my STi....
And if you get £35 back via voucher seems OK.

For a P1 quote - or at least an alternatitive to the Silverstone Scheme e-mail me on tom@schofieldinsurance.co.uk

This is for P1's only I'm affraid...it might well be better than £1k!!

I will need to know all the info....but as I guess you already know...every company does...

Insurers is Independent Ins Co...superb claims handling...if needed...normally £500 Xs, Comp cover etc.

Cheers Rum

Thumbs down

I just called Silverstone Insurance and I can't believe what I have been told.

1. They don't do imports.
2. My quote for a UK car would be over £1,600 (32 and Full NCB).

Is this correct?? This is by far the worst quote that I have had. What is going on here? This surely cannot be correct. Is there someone I can specifically ask for who will know about the SIDC scheme? I had spoken to someone the week before and he was talking about £500-600, subject to finalising some details. So what the hell happened at Silverstone Insurance last week?

P1 insurance quotes - policy excess now down to £350.00... Named Drivers, Comprehensive etc etc etc - Insurer is Independent Insurance Co - one of the best claims handlers - premiums vary - tho for Insured and Spouse, Class 1 (personal Business Use), garaged etc, max No Claims Protected looking at circa £950.00...

If any P1 owners/prospective owners fancy a quote mail me on tom@schofieldinsurance.co.uk or tom.butler@bun.com

Cheers Rum
