Can you buy Car Insurance by Day/Week/Month?

As title really, anyone know any companies that will do insurance by the day week or month instead of year?

Directline did it for me by weeks and months but this was about 4 yrs ago. Did work out to be very expensive though.

CIS also do short term cover, you pay by the month and get a refund for what you dont use.
