Default Liverpool Victoria DONT cover performance mods

Have a policy with them and just phoned them to do a temp car change and they informed me that they DO NOT allow ANY performance mods.

Wanted to insure a 1.8 '94 Golf for a while and they wont do cover it as it has a lowered suspension.

I dont think there is many standard bits left on my scoob

I told them that they didnt ask when I insured the scoob and they sounded suprised and brushed it off as something that has changed recently.

I know there was a lengthy thread on this a while back but I'm unsure what the outcome of it was.

I thought "performance mods" were anything which increased the BHP of the engine. Is a larger spoiler or front splitter now a "performance" mod?

Put it this way. They only allow: Alloys, sunroof, towbar and disability mods.

They do cover mods, but only on exsisting policies, I've been insured with mods for three years, and before anyone says that I should check, its written down in black and white on the insurance schedule what I've got covered. You may find that as it's a change of vehicle that they're treating it like new custom.

This is what they 'seem' to suggest. BUT they only sell the insurance. Either the underwriters do cover mods or they dont.

what mods you got listed and did this affect your premium?

Bob, Im with L&V & I originally told them of mods I had & they told me if i wished to have them covered then list them, otherwise you will only be covered for std parts in the event of a write off.

The trouble with L&V is that 10 mins later you can ring them & they will tell you a different story, I even got a not interested reply to having a tracker fitted so what does that tell you.

Part of the problem these days is that they were one of the few companies insuring scoobs, so every man and his insured with them if you're a new customer and under thirty (I think) they'll not touch you, so I think that they're trying to cut down on possible claims as the cost of an old classic is low enough for any young lad with a job to buy one. The mods I listed did effect my premium, and also had to pay when adding them part way through a policy year.

Looking to get a WRX with free PPP and am currently hunting down an insurer. I tried LV this morning but they wouldn't consider it, nor would Norwich Union, even though I'm with them already. I'm over 40, clean licence, no points or convictions, full NCB too!

L&V would cover me for a new STI + PPP, but wanted £1347. higher than I've been quoted elsewhere, but by not much

Sounds like LV aren't very consistant.

I wonder how they handle claims for modded cars?

Just after the time everyone was complaining about L&V refusing to insure modded subarus I phoned them for a quote. They wouldn't insure me until I told them that the car was modded when I bought it. They then changed their minds and weren;t interested in any mods I had provided I gave them 600 quid.

I know of one owner who had no problems at all with a payout, in fact, he even used the opportunity to up the spec and mod the car further by paying a bit more to the company for over/above the cost of standard parts.

Courtesy car as standard on all policies as well as NC protection standard on all business policies. I also have mods listed and after recent scare stories have correspondance agreeing values of mods.
Its not all bad news, its just bad news for new policies, those under 30 and some imports.
