Question Best way to insure a second car?

Currently have the P1 in my name with the other half as a named driver (costs about £680 from memory). We're both 34 with full no claims (albeit the other half has not had a car for a few months and before that was in a company car).

We're about to buy my mother's Fiesta off her for £1200 ish.

Questions:

- Is third party much cheaper than fully comp?
- Is it cheaper in my name or the other half's (with each as named driver)?
- Is it possible to have a two car policy?

All help gratefully received!!!

For a car of that value TPFT is the way to go.As regards NCD did your other half have a clean record with her company car ? If so approach the employer or their leasing company for written confirmation of the number of years of clean driving. Many insurance companies will offer NCD based on that letter but they probably wont protect the ncd straight away.

If the above is a non runner look into mirroring the ncd ie finding a company who will offer the same ncd on the fiesta as on your existing car>first name that comes to mind is msminsurance who will offer this without insuring your existing car.

Hope this helps.

When I opted out of the company car policy, Direct Line gave me the same discount NCD as my wifes car, as I had been named as the main driver. My wife also kept the full NCD on her car, result!
