im pissed off completely i've been looking at various cars to get to and from work and now i've just been hacked off completely. seat ibiza 1.2 reference, 4 thousand pounds citroen saxo 1.1 3500 this is a rediculous amount of money to spend and could cost me my job unless i can work around the problem. to be honest because i am 19 and male, i feel i am being completely discriminated against, as i am a sensible person and i dont feel i should have to pay this amount of money, especially because if i do have a small prang or someone nicks my cd player i wont beable to claim off my insurance due to fear of it costing me even more next year

I think there should be a scheme whereby your first 6 months of driving are really cheap and it rolls over until you prove them right and that you are a risk. Then they can hike it right up as above.

Obviously I haven't thought this thru but it just seems unfair.

i am livid to say the least, i dont know how they work this out but i got quoted cheaper for a citroen saxo vtr although it had to be standard which the one i was looking at would take a hell of alot of work to put back to normality engine wise

Too much. I paid 780 TPO on a 1.2 nova, and only 1400 on a 1.8 Nissan Bluebird Turbo. The Fiat 126 reduced my premium to 560 so I got loads back

IIRC like myself, madjay is from good old N.I. typically we pay around x3 mainland uk prices for car insurance. it sucks.

Those premiums are WAY too high mate, you need to do some shopping around for companies that don't mind insuring youngsters. Most of the companies reccomended on here specialise in high performance cars for older drivers and would be reluctant to help you.

I'd reccommend looking at a website for Max Power/Revs/Redline, or similar publication, aimed at your age group and see what companies they suggest. You should be able to get a quote of at least HALF what you've currently been quoted from a good specialist.

We've all been there, insurance when you're under 21 is a nightmare. Don't be tempted to be put on someone else's policy though, as you'll only hurt yourself financially in the long term, as you'll have no no-claims bonus!

Try Tesco's or Endsleigh, they are Two of the most competitive companies on young driver's at the moment. Also ask them to quote on you completing the Pass plus course, as some companies will give an equivalent percentage discount as 1 year NCD for this.....unless you have already done this??

After you pass your test (I presume you have), your driving instructor can take you out for another 5-6 lessons on the motorway, at night and in bad weather etc. You are given a certificate confirming this, which is recognised by certain insurance companies for a discount.

Obviously these lessons are at a cost, but are more often than not recoperated in the saving on insurance.
