21 insured STI type r version 5
Hi i bought an sti type r for my 21st in feburary great presant hay, insured it with tescos in my own name 1 years no claims £2998 i thought this although expensive was excellent for the car and my age. since then i have had to rebuild the engine the cost of which is going to be over 5k so i was going to pause my insurance till i can afford the rebuild but am worried they wont reinsure me since they have changed there policies.
anybody got any ideas?

biggest mistake i ever made i am scooby made and it hade to be a V type r so borrowed the lot form the bank and stretched myself all was excellant until coming home one noght late heading in the M1 all went terribly wrong she started knocking. i have been told it was the bad pilot who did the damage. anyway me and my mad scientist striped the engine and block to discover i had spun a bearing on No 2 scored the crank bent a con rod and the piston had some pitting.
it was a sad sad day.

I have a suggestion.....stop whining you spoilt little tube, most 21 year olds would sell their own granny to be able to afford a Type-R.... next time, suggest you buy a car with a warranty. Happy motoring

"You will smash it up within mins of owning it"
"Your Mum and Dad buy it for you?"
"Spoilt ****"
Im sure ill remember a few more soon that people tell me!

I myself was in the same situation as s83osl ( blown engine, BIG repair bill ) which is now fixed to a "special" manner courtesy of Prosport. I am also in the same age bracket as him and CustomScoobyIOM ( 21, ££££ for insurance in MY name ).
I Have had the same sort of treatment from the police who accuse you of having "illegal" money making activities. One word, TOSSERS. Let me guess, you fall in to the " I HATE BOY RACERS CATEGORY", meaning young lad, fast, decent car = Boy Racer / Drug Dealer / Mummy / Daddy's Boy?
I tried hard in school, didnt come out badly and built my way up. I now have a good, well paid job. Money in the bank and an STi TypeR v5 in my drive.
I have never taken part in ANY illegal money making practices and don't ask for money from my parents. There is more satisfaction from looking at MY car and knowing that everything is paid for by myself.
So before you start to criticise and accuse people, look at the facts.
RANT OVER
Andy

Sorry to hear about ur blown engine! I'd keep ur insurance running if i was you as Tesco may not re-insure you once the car is fixed - apparently they dont like under 30's anymore!
Give them old fuddy duddies the bird!

Yeah, all this does bring back memories....I was 19 when I built my Westfield (back in '93 mind you)...the **** I kopped for that...just cos I made a (if I say so myself) bloody good job of it, people assume you're a rich kid....nope, just a humble electronics apprentice with a multi-national, that worked his **** off for 6 months solid building it, had no weekends or evenings other than in the garage, saving money (ie no social life)...and can use a mill, lathe, etc, etc, so could make lots of stuff myself....sure, I had help from the folks with being carted around to buy bits (sold my car to help fund, along with mountain bike, kidney, etc, etc ) but then you'd expect that from parents, I know I will, as-and-when.
Of course, no-one wants to acknowlege that, they want to assume the easy answer.
If he (they) can afford it, then good on 'em, at least they've got some ambition...jealousy...really pi55es me off
Anyway, rant-over and back on-thread....don't know mate. I know specialist car insurance companies like Osbornes (who I'm with on my Type R and the Westfield) can under certain circumstances offer a "lay-up" policy...not sure if this only applies to new-build kitcars (like when I last used that facility) or everyday cars too...give em a call 0208 388 6000. Incidentally, they were also the most helpful and cheapest for my Scoob policy...£862, but then, I'm now in "old-fart" territory! ...been with 'em for the last 10 years, cant grumble.

Tesco's don't mind under 30s, I've spoken to them on the phone about this when I was looking to insure Scoobess and myself on the car. I think their cut-off point is 23 and they like you to have 3 years no claims at that age.
If in doubt phone them up and ask them. Elephant have a similar stance and are happy to insure under 25's, they might raise their eyebrows at a Type R though.

May be worth a go though, may have changed (or I may be mis-remembering!)
