Lightbulb WTF! £140 For NCD Protection!

I was messing about on the Tesco website and put in a Quote for a WR1. When I unticked the protected NCD box the premium went down by £140!

If you don't have this and have to make a claim I would imagine your premium would increase by a similar amount anyway? As I presume if you had say 10 years NCD and make a claim you do not lose all 10 years do you?

Just seems like daylight robbery to me.

Damian.

LOL how many poeple with decades of NCB still protect it?

If you go with the odds - the money you save by not protecting usually outweighs the 2 years NCB knockback you get if you do claim.

I think its a swizz - some company policys are to not offer NCB protection until its 60% or whatever - ever thought why? LOL

I agree with Jay m A on this. It all seems like a money making exercise to me.

Most you will lose is 2 years if you make a claim. It usually costs 10% of the premium to protect your NCD, more if your a young driver.

This is wrong - you get a two year step back for a claim and in the event of a total loss you may lose a bit more.

Still wrong - You will only lose 2 years of the individual insurance companies max NCD.

so you lose 2 years from the ins. cos MAX NCD? So if I have 7 years NCD, the company only accepts up to 5, and I have a claim, what do I end up with?

Do I have 5 still (7-2), or 3 (5-2)? How does that get affected if you want to move to another insurer?

You will go down to 3 years, this may not apply to all insurance companies and is best to check with you own.
