insurance payout?
hi all.
my car was involved in an accident last week, if my car was to be a right off how much would i get.
93 wrx import, 70k miles, above average condition. i paid £4.700 for it in december. the driver who hit me has accepted all responsability in a police statement.
any ideas?
thanks, shawn r.

I had a recent write-off and what happened was that the insurance approved engineer for Tesco assessed the value of the car using autotrader.co.uk.
He did a national search for my cars characteristics, such as mileage, year etc and made adjustments for alarms trackers etc.
He then rang me to discuss the offer of a value.
He offered me a £1000 lower than I wanted but because I had done the same homework on autotrader, I knew that a similar vehicle to my own would have been a £1000 more so I convinced him.
He went away to do some more research and finally agreed that mine was a fair price.
So basically do your homework and haggle hard. Think of all he extras you have on the car [so long as they are covered by the insurance] like expensive stereos, speaker, trackers, cat1 alarms, alloys, exhaust etc.
Good look

If you bought the car as recently as December you should aim for the same value as the price you paid ( use your purchase documentation as evidence ). Unles you have spent a significant amount on the car since then you wont get any more, even if you've replaced things like tyres & exhaust etc as they are classed as "consumables". Dump valves & the like wont add to the value.....
Good luck though

if you don't mind the hassle, try to get a good price and keep the car, then break it if it's not salvageable. Selling bits shouldn't be a problem.....
