Here is an interesting question.
Subaru offer a number of different wheel options direct from the dealer when you buy your car. As these wheels are fitted by the dealer before you actually take delivery of the vehicle could you claim to the insurance company that they are a standard fit item on the options list, therefore not having to be ripped off with exessive charges for a nice set of rims?

Optional extras from the manufacturer are normally treated by insurers differently to retro fit items. Although you still should disclose as it obviously effects things like value/performance etc.

As I understand it, having gone through a total nightmare insuring my 2003 WRX SL with PPP, if it is a manufacturers option then it does not need to be declared but if it is fitted after manufacture, i.e. by a dealer or anybody else then it does!

but surley even if the optional extra is fitted a couple of years down the line. They should not be able to charge any more for it if it is an official dealer option available from purchase,
as it could have been fitted from new making it a standard part.
When it was fitted to the vehicle should be irrelevant.
Putting different wheels on two years down the line does not make it any more nickable than having them when it was new in my opinion.

Dan, how about this scenario?
You pick up your WRX/Turbo you have bought from your local Subaru dealer. Before collecting it you asked him to fit a PPP, 18" prodrive wheels, uprated prodrive brakes and prodrive rear spoiler. These are all dealer fit options, NOT manufacturer fit. Would you tell your insurance company? I would, even if it was only one option fitted. The car we are talking about could be new or secondhand but either way the options are declarable.

Ok, prodrive bits aside. Im talking your usual options list.
Things like PPP and the alcon brake kit are bit outside the usual options list. Yes i would declare those and expect to pay some extra.
