Thinking of buying some gold 17" STi alloys to replace my 17" WRX alloys. I know theoretically they should not affect the insurance premium since they are the same diameter, (but not width - 225 instead of 215)just a different colour so I suppose they are a cosmetic modification. Has any one declared these as a mod and how did it affect your premium?

I am with Tesco at the moment but don't want to take any chances.

Well don't then, tell them.

They may not pay out for theft on the basis that the STi wheels are more desirable and therefore increase the risk of it being stolen.

The reason I was going to change the alloys was because I need new tyres, and for £500 quid I have been offered a full set with delivery mileage.

Just rang Tesco they want £220 quid extra and my excess will go by £450! The wheels are in effect only worth £100 taking into account the value of the tyres, which I explained.

my insurer (NUD) wanted 40 quid on a 860 premimum for 6 months swapping from std 02 WRX wheels to STI7 wheels.

Ouch.

They're still sat in the garage - I'm going to swap to elephant.
