Question

Just read an interesting thread on the Lancer Register where someone said their car was not considered an import by TESCO because it was first registered in the UK despite being a non Ralliart supplied EVO VII. My car is a Japanese MY98 WRX bought new (not by me) through Lockyear Cars, so if it was first registered in the UK could it be called a UK car and could I save a packet on insurance? Actually, I hope not because I've been paying Japanese import Impreza insurance rates for the last three years!

SS,

Sorry mate but your car should definitely be classed as a Japanese Import.

The WRX was not a model sold or supplied by Subaru UK in 1998 and is therefore classed as an import. Where it was originally registered would only really be an issue if the eqwuivalent car was officially available in the UK at the time.

Cheers,

John
