I have owned my Import for 4 years now so I should be used to the "Renewal" time.
This year I did the usual thing and found around half a dozen companies that were "import" friendly.
Knowing what I paid last year (around £850) I was shocked to hear that not of the companies could quote me under £1100, with the exception of Adrian Flux.
Adrian Flux qouted me £724 (Fully comp protected)which I was pleasantly happy with.
So why the big gap????
How can one company be £400 cheaper.
To make things more interesting I received my renewal from my present company and that was for £755, so yet again how can they be much cheaper than everyone else.
Because of my quote from Adrain Flux I asked my present insurer (Hyperformance Insurance) to better it.
They came back to me with the figure £685.
So thats £70 cheaper, why did they not give me that quote in the first place.
I'm overjoyed with the quote and swiftly handed over my credit card number.
But I am also quite miffed that some companies can take you for a big ride when it comes to car insurance.
For info details are:
Age 29 (30 this year)
MY93 WRX Import
Garaged
Cat 1 Alarm
Fully Comp Protected
Full NCB (about 10 years)
No points (Never have had)
Low risk postcode

You hit the nail on the head when you said " companies can take you for a big ride when it comes to car insurance" most of the people you talk to when you ring for a quote havent a clue, and the companies just make it up as they go along. It stinks but what can you do.

Remember lads Insurance companies are there to make money like any other business. They do however have large overheads, namely claims(personal injury). With the U.K becoming alot like america where people are claiming huge amount of monies for trivial things.
The reason for there sometimes being a huge gap in premiums between companies, one company may specialise in that type of 'risk' and quote a low premium, the other however will not really want this 'risk' but only at a price.
