I'm thinking about getting my de-catted scoob re-mapped. Do I have to tell my insurers as it is an "invisible" mod?
If the worst happens, will they find out my cars been done?
Cheers

Such an emotive subject.......
The smart side of you says to play it straight and tell them. The upside is that you know you're covered if the worst comes to the worst. The downside is the premium is probably going to be higher.
What if you don't tell them? I don't know for sure how insurance assessors work but if they do find an undeclared mod on your car, that's their get-out-of-jail-for-free card and you can kiss goodbye to any kind of settlement.
What's the right choice? Only you can decide on that.
Cheers

How do you intend remapping the ECU without changing the ECU itself ? I thought the standard ecu need some sort of extra board ?

chrisp - I'm suprised JB didn't say (being discreet I suppose ) but the standard ECU can be remapped (one such mapper being JB...) depensing on the year. Which means is absolutely can't be detected - even by Subaru using their 'select monitor' - unless they have the software to download the edited code, or drive it & get a shock

Nom I guess I am use to people replacing their ECUs with aftermarket live mappable ones to allow more flexibility. I thought the old ones had piggybacks chips though, probably wrong though . It seems a lot mappers wont remap grey imports though.

When I spoke to my NEW insurance company (LV), they didn't care about any modifications, including ECUs.
Weird!!!
My old company Added 25% for any kind of ECU modification.
