Prodrive Backbox and Insurance premiums
#1
Hi
Just after some advice - I'm thinking of changing the backbox on my MY98 for a Prodrive box. Having called my insurance company (Direct Line) they need to know the percentage performance increase to quote me for this - anyone know this of the top of their head?
Also they have quoted me an increase fo 80 quid if there is no increase in power does this sound a bit steep (it's about 10% pof my annual premium)?
Any thoughts would be appreciated
Cheers
Marcel

The last time I looked at a new exhasut, it was going to be £200 (20% of my policy) for approx 20bhp gain. (BB & centre section)
If I just went for the backbox (for the noise - no noticable bhp increase) it was still going to be approx £200, as it looked "different to standard". Well, I could hardly say that the car was standard when the tail pipe can sleep a family of 4!
I then found out about backboxes that looked standard, but were supposed to sound good. These can, according to my insurance, be covered by policy notes They swallowed the story that a backbox is a neglegable gain in power, while centre & downpipe is where the real gain comes from.

My insurance company (royal/sun alliance) didnt want any extra
(i was renewing at the time...) for a PPP backbox. Asked what the
BHP increase would - think it is only 2 or 3 (if that), said they
would only charge if it increased BHP by 10%
