...but I'll ask it! Imagine you pay for a year's insurance and have an accident after 6 months. You claim and then receive a total loss payment. If you choose not to buy another car with the cash and do not require insurance any more do you get half a year's insurance premium back?

I think it may depend on who's fault it is.

If its not your fault then you may get the premium back

If its not your fault and you can't reclaim the premium, then if you have legal expenses cover or similar, on your insurance you can reclaim all out of pocket expenses i.e. policy excess and insurance premium from the third party, which is what I did with my policy excess.

If its your fault then forget it.
