Question

was talking to a chap yesterday who reckons as soon as you decat your car then the insurance becomes invalid because the car is no longer road legal. he found out the hard way and didnt get paid out by his insurance after a crash.

is this true?

i'm sure if your insurer is aware you have decat, issue the policy accordingly having taken your cash and the car is "road worthy" then you must be ok. I'm sure some of the insurers on here can help out.

Just spoke to Greenlight today to inform them of an inpending full decat. The response was £95 please sir. Me thinks that if ther're fully aware, and charge for it, they must pay out! If it was going to void your insurance then they are surely obliged to tell you!

Red face

Your car doesnt have to be road legal for it to be insured!
You are insuring the car for its value, not for its road legalness, thats what MOT's are for and if you get caught with a full decat system you have 7 days to get it sorted and retested for emissions, after that you can take your cat off again

On the other hand, if you have an accident with a bald tyre, you're f***ed.

Cool

Raks

Some places have a special catted section which they put on your car before taking it to the MOT station. I had my old fully decatted Scoob's MOT done by Scoobysport, it passed! I think Northampton tyres also can offer this service, not sure where else but there are probably loads more
