Angry

I was with this Insurance Company for 4 years and never made a claim or anything. I cancelled my new policy I had taken out with them recently within 1 month so I would only be charged 25% and returned the rest of the money. This is so I could buy the Scooby on a new policy, as these people wanted £2000 extra to cover it on my existing policy.

So I spoke with them over 1 week before on the 23/5/02 stating that I wanted it cancelled on the last day before the month was up and they agreed saying it has to be followed up in writing. The sum I should be returned is £730. So I sent the letter the same day and have been waiting for the money ever since the 1/6/02 when it was cancelled (The policy was taken out on 2/5/02).

Anyway I spoke with them again this morning, and they said I would receive £630 in the next 7 days. When I questioned that the amount should be £730 they said my letter was dated 1 June, so was after 1 month. When I told them it definitely was not, they then said they received the letter after the 1 June instead!!! Even though I sent it on the 23/5/02.

I was so mad, I told them that was bollox, and slammed down the phone!! Anyway what are my options now, the letter was not recorded delivery, which I regret and won't be making that mistake again.

Yet can I prove they received the letter before the 1 month cancellation period, as they are blatantly cheating me out of £100???

Your help and advice would be appreciated!!

Ant

typical b4stard insurers. Mine claimed to never even recieve some of my letters, but I beat them in the end. You can consider the insurance ombudsmen threat I suppose, but the problem is that your proof is somewhat lacking.

Sorry m8
As it was not registered post you cannot prove anything. Just have to accept it. Not even worthwhile speaking to ins,Omb. as he cannot do anything.

Unhappy

Cheers guys!!

I have calmed down a lot since, it is just I have been waiting for the money to come back since June which has been sitting on the credit card and gaining interest costing me more.

Will probably write to them to get it off my chest fully, but still cannot beleive they pull these kind of stunts...

Talking

Just got a call from CIA after my letter to them last time letting off steam and letting them know what I think of there service.

Anyway they are now going to refund me the extra £100 - Hooray and I am very chuffed to say the least!! Yet they need to have a copy of my current insurance policy faxed to them to prove I started a new insurance policy on a Scooby on 31/5/02. I have no idea why they need this though, as it has nothing to do with cancelling the policy with them in under a month..

Cool

Use E-mail backed up with a letter, it's legally binding and they can't argue when it was sent..

I dont believe they have any actual need for proof of your next policy. It may well prove to them that you did make arangement s to cancel the policy with them on the date you told them you did, however, I dont see why they would have any legal right to demand such information, but in this case it should help to prove your case.
