Just about to (probably) get my first WRX saloon. I've rung around some insurers, only to be told that the premiums will be >£1K. Don't seem to get anywhere near what other posters see.

This is my profile:

Age : 33
NCD : 3 years (had a fire in a Cally back in '98...)
Mileage : <3K/year (I commute)
Car will be kept on a drive in a quiet residential area.

One good thing though was that it's reckoned my insurance will drop to <£800 next year and then <£600 the year after.

Thought you all might like to know that, although it's expensive to start with, the renewals are much better, especially if you threaten to leave the insurer!

Can anyone recommend an insurer that'll quote me <£800 now !!!

not sure who to recommend without knowing who you have tried. I have to say I doubt premiums will drop over the years in the manner that has been suggested to you. Insurance seems to be going up year by year. My latest renewal was £940 from Greenlight, who have been excellent so far.

Tried Admiral, Direct Line, Norwich, Barclays so far.
I'll give Greenlight and Victoria a try.

Thanks.

...Tesco?

May be stupid suggestion but make sure you are getting quoted for the new WRX (>2001) not the old WRX which is what the Jap import Imprezas were called (much more to insure)

It's actually a Jap Import from 1994/95 I'm after. I'll try Tesco, though.

Any other companies I can try? Thanks a lot.

i got quoted from tesco. They wanted an extra £300 cause it was an import but then again i am 21 so cant complain. The only thing is they want a tracker.

Have you found your imported wrx over here or are you going to import one over? Im importing mine to save me some money!
