Default Trying to find a good stereo

I'd like to swap the double-din head unit in my Hawkeye for something with Bluetooth (and either USB or iPhone 5s compatibility).

I've seen this http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/prod...bt_p-28159.htm which looks okay.

But has anyone got any recommendations.

And should I go DAB? The options seem v expensive and need an extra aerial.

Thanks

I save a bit of cash and wouldn't bother with DAB personally, it's great at home when you can get a good ariel set up and get a strong signal, but if the signal isn't good (and it usually isn't in a moving car) the sound starts to glitch and becomes very annoying - good old FM radio just goes a bit crackly but is still listenable. As for the quality... in a moving car, with engine and road noise? I challenge anyone to tell the difference.

That Kenwood unit looks pretty nice TBH. Do you still have stock speakers?

Yes, still got the stock speakers. Maybe perversely, sound quality isn't my main aim (given engine noise etc). But I do want to play podcasts either via Bluetooth or USB.

in that case, you're not really looking for anything too fancy - I'd go with the one you linked to

I got this for Christmas and been very impressed. You can control your phone via the bluetooth for music and phone calls as it has Parrot built in. You can also control your ipod etc through the USB slot in the front. You can get one for around £120 if you shop around.

Use the dab from iPhone app when connected to stereo.

Top tip about the iPhone DAB app.

Thanks for the Pioneer recommendation too. May have to visit a shop and try both Pioneer and Kenwood units.

I just got the Pioneer FH-X700BT too, brilliant value and connects straight to my galaxy S4, can't complain at £130 and bolts straight in to the factory mounting bracket, just need wiring harness adapter and the aerial fits straight in. Loads of colour options for the display lights too. I have an 04 Blobeye if that helps.

I'm watching this closely as was going to throw up the exact same question.

My speakers don't seem too bad but how would you know if they've been upgraded !! what are the standard ones looking like ?

Sorry to but in on your thread LordChoc. Hoping it might also be useful as an addative to thread.

Will post some pics later so you can see day and night shots.
Standard ones look like they are made of cardboard and have a magnet on the back the size of a 2p piece...ok maybe a 50p

My rear speakers have been moved from the back doors to the rear shelf, however this was done by the previous owner and was a complete mess because the speakers were too big and the iso points where cut out. After investing in a new shelf as the old one was knackered and a new set of 5" Pioneer components the sound now is very good. It's a bit of a tricky job to do but the results if done properly are very good. My fronts are upgraded too. As with most cars the standard speakers are never that great, especially on Japanese cars I have found!

Regards

Good head unit

Just be careful when installing that you dont give the volume control any impact. I dropped mine onto the gearknob and it broke the circuit board (I did repair it, but its not easy - better to just not break it in the first place)

What is the iphone DAB app? I had a quick look on iTunes and found some internet radio apps.....but that uses 3G, which is ok if there is reception...its patchy signal where I live/drive
